Afghan security forces have put an end to an attack by insurgents on NATO headquarters and the U.S. Embassy in the capital Kabul.
According to CNN‚ the attack which lasted for more than 20 hours‚ ended Wednesday after security forces killed the last six militants and cleared the building they were firing from.
NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the Taliban is trying to test the ongoing transition of handing over security responsibility to Afghan forces there but added that he is confident that the plan will stay on track.
NATO aims to complete the transfer of security control to national forces and gradually withdraw Western forces by the end of 2014.
