A record-breaking cold snap has gripped east and central Canada with temperatures dipping as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.
Wind chill warnings are in place in much of the east and central regions including New Brunswick and southern Quebec where temperatures dropped to minus 38 and minus 40 degrees Celsius‚ respectively.
Further South‚ Ottawa recorded minus 30 the lowest since 1970.
The unprecedented cold wave began when frigid Arctic air mass came down on Monday which is forecast to remain until Tuesday morning.
The Arctic blast also affected northeastern parts of the US where two people were found dead amid freezing temperatures that fell below minus 34 degrees Celsius overnight.
