An orchestra made out of garbage has been wowing their audience while promoting their environmentally friendly message.
Zabaleen is the name of this unique band from Cairo‚ Egypt.
The name comes from a community of garbage collectors who make their living recycling waste throughout the city.
A group of students from the American University of Cairo got together to realize their concept of doing something useful with garbage on World Environment Day.
They decided to use old scrap metal‚ discarded containers‚ pipes among other objects commonly found in the 6-thousand tons of garbage produced daily in the nation to produce music.
Since their debut in June this year‚ the band has gained a strong following and has been invited to perform in a variety of venues.
Zabaleen might not be able to provide the solution to Egypt's garbage problems‚ but through its music and message‚ the band is successfully raising awareness of the issue.
When you think about pumpkins‚ images of Jack-O-Lanterns and other Halloween related elements spring to mind.
But over in Germany the sight of pumpkins racing each other on water will become a common sight soon.
The second International Pumpkin Boat Championship took place in southern Germany.
The radical race was originally conceived by and is held frequently in the United States.
And since this German version is the only one of its kind in Europe‚ a growing number of participants and spectators can be expected for years to come.
Families and friends of the pumpkin boat racers as well as devoted fans and curious onlookers were delighted to witness the crowning of a new champion.
Manuel Memmert‚ who took the crown from last year's champ‚ attributed his success to a pumpkin-only diet‚ comprised of pumpkin soup and pumpkin steak.
