[Reporter : ] Some people have been stung to death by bees‚ but over in Tunisia‚ bee sting is celebrated as a great natural treatment for a variety of ailments.
Some patients reportedly found the cure for their conditions in bee venom‚ when conventional medicine failed them.
The medicinal effects of various bee products have been well documented in various ancient media including the Koran.
One such ancient natural remedies gaining popularity in Tunisia today is bee sting therapy.
Similar to acupuncture‚ the doctors use tweezers to pick up bees from the hive and place them one by one on certain pressure points.
The bees instinctively use their stingers‚ and then dies.
The stingers are left in the patient's body for several hours for the treatment to be effective.
A patient is stung at the least 4‚ to around a hundred times at most.
Although recent scientific researches have shown that honey‚ bee venom and pollen can be used to treat some 499 diseases‚ bee sting treatment is not yet recognized as an official medical practice by the Tunisian health ministry.
Academy Award winner Helen Mirren is no stranger to receiving honors and awards for her achievements as an actress.
But the latest one definitely stands out from her long list of film and television awards.
According to the actress who recently received an Order of the British Empire‚ having her doppelganger unveiled at Madame Tussaud's wax museum was an extremely surreal experience.
Sculptor Stephen Mansfield said that there was more to creating the waxwork figure than just capturing the physical details.
Other than dressing it up in the black dress that has been personally donated by Mirren‚ it took four months to capture the right pose‚ so that it has a real spark.
Her husband‚ director Taylor Hackford‚ who recently completed a movie together with her‚ jokingly said that he prefers the wax figure to the real deal‚ as it is not as argumentative as Mirren.
Ian Reid is a firefighter who had to have his hand amputated due to an injury sustained in the line of duty.
Six long years after the tragic incident‚ Ian is optimistic about his chances of returning to action‚ thanks to his new bionic hand.
Scottish manufacturer Touch Bionics' latest product‚ the i-LIMB Pulse is a huge step forward in the field of bionic devices.
What makes this commercially available bionic hand revolutionary is the fact that the user can have greater control over grip strength and also alter grip patterns.
Control over grip force makes all the difference in practical applications‚ be it zipping up one's pants‚ lacing up one's shoes or using kitchen utensils.
The hand responds to electrical signals sent from the brain.
This is just one of the many science fiction elements that have become science facts over decades of research.
The company feels that the industry is still in its infancy‚ and that there will always be room for progress.
