요약정보
In northern Punjab‚ wildlife authorities plan to establish a rehabilitation center‚ for the estimated 10-thousand monkeys at a sanctuary in Patiala city.
The ceaseless deterioration of their natural habitat‚ authorities say‚ has led them to look for food in the cities.
The plan is to erect an enclosure within the sanctuary‚ to accommodate injured or abandoned monkeys.
RK Luna‚ the chief wildlife warden in Punjab‚ says the plan was developed in order to help address the problem of orphaned monkeys‚ which are at times abandoned by their mothers.
The rehabilitation center would also serve as a safe haven‚ and could house those monkeys who have wandered into the cities‚ creating chaos‚ and who have become a nuisance for some residents.
Authorities have noted that massive deforestation in the region‚ and human settlements encroaching on the monkeys' natural habitat‚ have forced the animals to seek alternative environments.
Those in charge hope to implement the center's proposal sometime next year.
In the beautiful Canadian city of Vancouver‚ a not so beautiful sight was seen in the harbor over the weekend.
A pleasant trip aboard the "Sapphire Princess" cruise ship ended with a gruesome surprise.
A 20-meter-long whale was discovered impaled on the bow of the vessel‚ as the ship was getting ready to enter port.
Divers were called in to remove the whale from the hull.
They tied a rope around the whale's body‚ and attached the other end to a smaller boat‚ which pulled the carcass from the ship.
A spokesman for the cruise line was not able to confirm when or how the whale had become attached to the ship.
Craig Delahunt‚ a veteran sailor and owner of Tymac Launch Service‚ said that during his nearly 20 years working in the Vancouver Harbor‚ he's only seen three such incidents of whale spearing.
According to Delahunt‚ the whale was likely struck further up north‚ as the boat cruised from Alaska to Vancouver.
All living creatures need a means to keep cool during scorching hot weather.
So why not some ice
The efforts to keep the animals cool‚ have become a cool new tourist attraction‚ as many visitors enjoy watching the polar bears chipping and licking their way into the centers of the ice blocks.
One five-year-old said she enjoyed how cute the bear looked‚ crunching into an apple‚ liberated from the ice.
