요약정보
Japan‚ meanwhile‚ is tightening its grip on Japanese exports in a bid to prevent North Korea from building and launching more missiles.
Tokyo plans to cut off all Japanese exports of materials that could end up in North Korea's missile program.
It's also planning to step up the diplomatic pressure on Pyeongyang.
Lee Jee-won has more.
The Japanese government now has a special designation for domestic companies that have engaged in business with North Korea.
Out of 300 firms suspected of having business transactions with the North‚ Japan will zero in on select companies based on their scale of export and extent of ties to the communist country.
The government will revise an existing regulation to make it mandatory for such companies to report details of 40 products that can be used to produce missiles or weapons of mass destruction.
The items include heavy-duty trucks‚ carbon fiber‚ and compound metals.
The Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun reported the move is designed to prevent missile-related commodities from entering the North through a third nation.
Japan's economy ministry says it will forbid export if there is even a possibility of the classified companies' exports to a third country ending up in the North.
A case in point is a Japanese motor manufacturer's export to a Chinese company dealing in aerial photography.
Yamaha Motor is expected to face prosecution for selling its motors to BVE Technology‚ while being aware that its goods might be used for military purposes.
In related news‚ Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Aso said he will confront the North on the missile issue at the ASEAN Regional Forum.
Minister Aso reportedly emphasized that he wants to express his firm stance on the matter at the annual security meeting‚ scheduled to kick off Friday in Kuala Lumpur.
