Now the Lunar New Year may come as an annual occasion for many here in Korea but to some‚ it's their first time experiencing a moment they'd waited their whole lives for.
And that was the case with Toby Dawson‚ the Korean-born American skier who headed to his birthplace to learn about his roots.
And we have Arirang's Song Ji-sun here in the studio to tell us more about his very personal journey.
So Ji-sun‚ I heard you traveled all the way to Busan to see Dawson spend the holiday with his family.

song@arirang.co.kr] That's right. It definitely was a long ride to the southern city‚ but I guess all the efforts were worth it for all involved- for Dawson himself‚ the family and everyone around them.
Let's take a look at Toby Dawson's story.
Toby Dawson‚ who was born in Korea as Kim Bong-seok‚ and adopted by an American family‚ is an Olympic medalist and the coach of Korea's freestyle ski team.
But it's not the slopes he's headed to during the Lunar New Year holiday.
It's the city of his birth -- Busan -- where his biological family is anxiously waiting to spend the country's biggest holiday with him.
[Interview : Kim Jae-soo‚ Dawson's biological father] "His aunts are excited to see him. They spent the whole day preparing New Year's dishes for him."
And it's not a pair of skis he's carrying.
It's a snowboard that Dawson brought for his younger biological brother as a New Year's gift.
The brothers exchange greetings in Korean - a language Dawson is quickly coming to grips with.
It's 4 a.m. the next morning‚ but Dawson is already suited up in traditional hanbok to bow to his forefathers - something he never had a chance to do - until now.
Although the costume is less than comfortable‚ Dawson learns every process step by step and takes in every moment.

Freestyle National Team] "I think it's nice to have these traditions and the cultures -- pay respect to elders.
Here‚ it's brought back every year. You celebrate‚ and I think that's wonderful to celebrate life‚ to remember all the people that were part of your life.
And Dawson's presence is a gift to his father.
[Interview : Kim Jae-soo‚ Dawson's biological father] "It's great to finally have all of our sons gathered together for a New Year's memorial service. I always feel indebted to my ancestors and to my family."
Dawson was lost at a crowded market here in Busan -- when he was just three.
He was then adopted by a ski-instructor couple in the US state of Colorado.
It was with them that he grew up‚ and eventually became a bronze medalist in freestyle skiing at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino‚ Italy.
A year later‚ he met his biological father in Korea.
And today‚ he get to bow and say 'Happy New Year' to his parents‚ as well as his relatives‚ for the first time in his life.
[Interview : Nam Yang-ja‚ Dawson's aunt] "I never thought this day would come to have Bong-seok on a New Year's.
It's a day filled with joy and I couldn't be happier."
When he's back in town‚ Dawson's younger brother - who's five years his junior‚ is his best buddy.
[Interview : Kim Hyun-cheol‚ Dawson's biological brother] "We didn't visit our relatives that often before‚ but with my brother back home - I think the tie got stronger.
We laugh and smile more than ever."
His duties‚ as the oldest son of the family‚ are finally fulfilled as he visits the grave of his family's ancestors and pays respects with a glass of rice wine.

Freestyle National Team] "It's a little confusing to me‚ but I'm happy to be able to share the moment with the family and to do all the rituals.
And it's good to see more of the extended family. I haven't met a lot of them."
