Hello and thank you for being with us here on World Sports‚ I'm Jimmy Yu.
Starting off with the Asian Cup
A hat-trick from Shinji Okazaki helped Japan to a 5-0 thumping of Saudi Arabia to qualify for the quarterfinals as Group B winners.
Japan‚ who scrambled a 1-1 draw against Jordan in their opener‚ stayed in command throughout the match against a Saudi side who crashed to their third straight defeat.
The three-time champions were ahead with three golas inside 20 minutes as Okazaki scored after eight minutes before doubling Japan's lead with a diving header from Shinji Kagawa's assist.
And Ryoichi Maeda made it 3-0 when he converted a cross in the 19th minute.
Maeda stretched Japan's lead early in the second half with his second of the match before Okazaki completed his hat-trick with 10 minutes left.
Now topping the group earned Japan a quarterfinal clash with hosts Qatar on Friday.
Meanwhile‚ Jordan also advanced to the final eight after coming from behind to beat local rivals Syria 2-1 in Qatar on Monday.
Jordan‚ who needed a draw against Syria to go through‚ will now play Uzbekistan for a place in the semifinals.
Serving our way over to Australian Open.Rafael Nadal opened his campaign with a nasty‚ brutish‚ and quick demolition of Marcos Daniel on Tuesday that ended after 46 minutes when the Brazilian journeyman retired injured.
Daniel mustered up just 12 points without a single winner before he decided his injured left knee‚ and possibly his pride‚ could take no more and he called an end to the contest with the world's number one leading 6-0 5-0.
Elsewhere.last year's runner-up Andy Murray booked his place in the second round of the Australian Open when Slovakian Karol Beck called it quits with a sore shoulder with Murray leading 6-3 6-1 4-2.
Now Beck‚ who finished serving a two-year doping suspension in 2007‚ played horribly and spent much of the match growling at himself angrily.
Over in the women's sideWorld's number two Vera Zvonareva began her bid to reach a third consecutive Grand Slam final with a commanding 6-2‚ 6-1 win over Sybille Bammer in the opening match on Tuesday.
Zvonareva dominated the first set and conceded only four points in the first four games of the second set and didn't allow the Austrian to hold until the sixth game.
It was confirmed that Russia's double Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva is looking forward to resume her career in 2011.
The 28-year-old Russian star decided to take an indefinite break in her career after she failed to clear the bar at the Berlin Worlds in 2009 and finished fourth at the world indoors in Qatar in March 2010.
The champion is now scheduled to start a new season with performance at the Russian Winter Tournament in Moscow on February 6th.
She won her first Olympic gold in Athens in 2004 and became the first woman to clear the historic 5-meter barrier.
Over in Americait was certainly a sad day as NFL legend Brett Favre made another move toward leaving the game for good by filing retirement papers with the league.
It was another sign that the quarterback's 20-year career has come to an end‚ as he had repeatedly insisted throughout a painfully disappointing 2010 season for the Minnesota Vikings.
The 41-year-old threw for only 11 touchdowns in 13 games and was intercepted 19 times‚ and‚ in the process‚ took quite the beatingA disappointing finish but a great career nevertheless
Well that's going to be it for sports‚ have a great night.
