The effects of the El Nino phenomenon could be the worst since 1998 when it led to widespread flooding and other natural disasters around the world. NASA warned of the potential damaging effects as reported by the BBC. The El Nino winter storm has spawned at least 69 tornados and more than 400 floods in the United States' Midwest‚mostly in the states of Missouri and Illinois. In the Illinois town of St. Charles the floodwaters are too much for the city's drainage system. (ENGLISH) "They're working the way that they are supposed to work. But the amount of water that we've received is just overwhelming. This is something that we have." Forty people have been killed because of the severe weather conditions in those two states.
