They always say the next primary is pivotal‚ but the one in Indiana was truly a decisive one for the Republicans. Frontrunner Donald Trump claimed a huge win in Indiana‚ pushing his main rival Texas Senator Ted Cruz out of the race. "From the beginning‚ I've said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory. Tonight‚ I'm sorry to say‚ it appears that path has been foreclosed." Trump's victory virtually ensures he will become his party's nominee‚ and now that Cruz is out‚ he seemed to adopted a softer tone toward his old rival‚ in an apparent effort to bring the party together ahead of the party's nominating convention this summer. "Just so you understand‚ Ted Cruz‚ I don't know if he likes me or doesn't like me‚ but he is one hell of a competitor. He is a tough‚ smart guy." On the Democratic side‚ Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders pulled out a victory over former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. While the win injects some energy into Sanders' sagging campaign‚ it's not enough to change the trajectory of the race. Sanders trails Clinton by nearly 800 delegates and would need 66 percent of all the remaining pledged delegates for a majority. Still‚ even with all that math‚ Sanders showed no signs of backing down. "And what we have learned so far in the campaign is that if there are large voter turnouts‚ we win. Let us make certain‚ that for the Kentucky democratic primary‚ we have the largest voter turnout in history." The Clinton campaign has emphasized the importance of bringing the party together to support her against Trump‚ but it seems like it will take a few more primary contests before the Democrats can name their nominee.
