What about global expansion? If Korea is in the infant stages does that mean it has more room for success or less? One reason Korea has been relatively lagging behind is strict regulations. The country is in the process of doing away with them -- but just a few months back‚ you needed a verification certification on top of several other procedures before you could actually make a transaction. During that time‚ countries with relatively lenient regulations pushed ahead. "Too many regulations at home also means complication in overseas expansion. Although Samsung has made inroads -- it only provides the service on its high-end smartphones. So‚ the U.S. is ahead in the top-tier smartphone market for being a frontrunner‚ while China has an upper hand in the budget phone market." Luckily for Samsung‚ experts say the prospects aren't so dismal. As I said earlier‚ Samsung uses MST technology -- giving it an advantage over those that use Near Field Communication technology which requires a separate reader. So as long it can establish partnerships overseas‚ it has opportunities in the future. Reporter : kimmj@arirang.com
