Are we alone in the universe? Do aliens exit? The world may be a step closer to answering these questions as China completes building the world's largest ever radio telescope. The Five Hundred Metre Aperture Spherical Telescope‚ or FAST‚ is the size of 30 football fields and has been built into the side of a mountain in the south-western province of Guizhou. The telescope cost 180 million U.S. dollars and took over 5 years to build. It will be used to explore space and yes hunt for extraterrestrial life in the galaxy. Scientists will put the telescope through a debugging process and intend to start operations in September. One of the hopes is that the telescope may be able to tell us more about the origin of our own universe. Exciting news Barry but why have China invested so much money in the hunt for aliens? Actually Beijing has stated that advancing its space program is a priority for the country. Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to establish China as a space power. What else are they working on? As well as the fast satellite they have already started building a space station and intend to put a man on the moon by 2036. Reporter : barrywelsh23@gmail.com
