The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency or KOTRA opened a branch office in Syria's capital of Damascus on Thursday.
Following its business center opening in Havana Cuba in 2005 the launch of the Damascus office is the second time that KOTRA has opened a regional office in a country that Korea has yet to forge diplomatic ties with.
Korean exports to Syria have grown by double digit figures each year since first topping 400 million US dollars in 2005.
In the first nine months of this year outbound shipments to Syria marked well over 700 million dollars a 39 percent increase from the previous year.
Korean automobiles are the number one export item comprising over 60 percent of all exports.
Last year Korea's Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group grabbed the top spot in terms of market share with more than 56 percent of all vehicle sales in Syria.
