So‚ it was Valentine's Day yesterday‚ which is the day when you express your heartfelt love to someone special.
I'm sure there were many happy couples celebrating in an atmosphere of love.
Yeah‚ but it's not always easy finding "Mr. or Miss Right"
So‚ how do young Koreans find their soul mates Hello Han-ul.
[Interview : ] Hi guys.
Yeah‚ I think it's really interesting that in Korea people most often meet each other through blind dates and it's so widely practiced here that it's not even seen as strange.
While in other cultures‚ you could be perceived as socially inept or awkward if you need a third person to arrange a date for you.
Yeah‚ I noticed that a lot for casual dating‚ but also for the purpose of marriage as well.
You mean like matchmaking services[Interview : ] Exactly.
Korea's matchmaking service is growing and it's no longer reserved for so-called "old maids" and maybe "undesirables" who can't find a partner to get married.
It's actually quite the opposite.
People who are smart shoppers pay for these services to get professional consulting when it comes to finding their future spouse.
Let's take a look.
Meeting someone through an arrangement is no longer an idea from the past as the negative stigma attached to matchmaking diminishes and more young Koreans are becoming receptive to the idea.
[Interview : Jeon Bo-in‚ Seoul resident] "When I see online matchmaking services‚ I can tell the online market is growing and it's becoming a new trend."
[Interview : Park Jin-sun‚ Seoul resident] "I don't think it's bad as long as you're fine with it."
Ironically‚ as more people choose to get married at a later age and more plan to stay single the matchmaking industry is booming.
This is because more people want to make better choices when it comes to choosing their spouse even if it means paying up to 3-thousand US dollars per year for professional matchmaking services.
Leading industry experts say Koreans' perspectives are changing as the average age of their members is getting lower.
[Interview : Yoon Young-jun‚ PR Manager
DUO Marriage Information Co.] "In the past there were a lot of people who said‚ 'if I really can't get married I will enroll in these matchmaking services when I hit the end of my 30s.' And it's true‚ our members were older in the past. But all this was 15‚ 20 years ago. People's minds have changed. Currently‚ the average age of our members is 28 to 29 for women and 30 to 31 for men."
But experts say it's more than just finding a match based on what people are attracted to -- it's human science.
This matchmaking service has developed a 'Soul Mate Index' technology based on 20 years of research to find a compatible match for a lasting long-term relationship.
And records show that one out of four couples found their soul mate with over 23-thousand people getting married.
These services are evolving to keep up with the latest technology without compromising on the quality and the traditional idea of matchmaking.
[Interview : Erica Oh‚ Global team manager
SUNOO Co.] "With that matching algorithm and traditional content we brought that to an online platform to offer those chances to those people out there for their convenience. They can access and search their soul mates anytime‚ anywhere they want at a very reasonable cost."
"Matchmaking was once considered old-fashioned‚ but as the practice shifted on-line‚ it became increasingly popular with young Koreans and more widely accepted as a way to meet potential partners. "
Take this company for example.
It's run by a 25-year-old entrepreneur who found a niche for young working professionals looking for ways to meet people without the pressure of marriage.
[Interview : Park Hee-eun‚ CEO
I-UM.NET] "In Korea there is a large matchmaking market for marriage and online chat rooms for short-term en
