The Korea-EU summit produced a string of agreements on economic cooperation.
The two sides decided to include Croatia‚ which joined the European Union in July‚ in the Korea-EU free trade agreement‚ expanding Korea's export market in the region.
Research conducted by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy shows Croatia's inclusion in the trade pact will increase Korean exports to Europe by 10 million dollars and imports by 2 million dollars over the next five years.
Korea and the EU agreed to share and benchmark each other's policies in the sector of the creative economy.
"Europe has led in the development of basic science for a long time. It has supported start-ups and venture companies so that they could grow into globally competitive firms based on the foundation of basic science."
The Park Geun-hye adminstration is currently pushing ahead with policies for a creative economy to create new markets and jobs‚ which has a lot in common with the EU's new growth strategy‚ called "Europe 2020."
The two sides will also set up a bilateral dialogue channel on industrial policy at a vice-ministerial level next year to support Korean and European countries so they can grow together.
Korea and the EU signed an agreement to exchange researchers in the field of basic science‚ and strengthen joint research in the sectors of bio‚ energy‚ nano and information and communications technology.
A tangible example will be the opening of a joint "research and innovation center" in Brussels.
Moving on to the North Korean issue‚ EU leaders threw full support behind President Park's trust-building process‚ and made it clear that North Korea must abandon its nuclear weapons program in a complete and irreversible manner.
"With this year marking the 50th anniversary since Korea and the EU established diplomatic ties‚ President Park and the EU leaders described themselves as "natural partners" and reaffirmed their committment to further strengthening their strategic partnership on issues ranging from the bilateral to the global.
