요약정보
From golden knives to necklaces and dolphin-shaped decorations‚ they are all exquisite‚ well-made and fashionable.
These golden relics will wow any visitor to this exhibition.
[Interview : Choi Hong-gi‚ Curator] "Egypt‚ Mesopotamia‚ the Indus River and the Yellow Sea are considered to be the cradles of the 4 original civilizations. However‚ ancient Korea is the forgotten 5th civilization‚ which can be confirmed through the relics shown here."
The Scythians [si-thee-uhns] were a nomadic people that left such brilliant relics‚ and they are now in exhibition in Seoul. 330 relics owned by the Ukrainian and Korean National Museums of History have been put on exhibit.
[Interview : Sergii Chaikpvskyi‚ General director
National Museum of History of Ukraine] "The Scythians were a nomadic people that lived in what is now Ukraine for about 300 to 400 years."
[Interview : Choi Hong-gi‚ Curator] "Since the Scythians were a nomadic people and constantly moved around‚ they lacked the space to hold many possessions‚ and they didn't feel the need to own such possessions. Hence‚ they only used these golden accessories or weapons to show their social status among themselves."
All relics on exhibit in Seoul were excavated from Scythian tombs‚ and they still show their luster from ages ago. These relics present the unique aspects of the Scythians‚ the world's first nomadic people.
[Interview : Choi Hong-gi‚ Curator] "This knife is the “Akinak‚” one of Scythia's most well-known swords. There is a boar's head on the knife‚ and the body of the knife shows a griffin‚ a hybrid creature between an eagle and a lion‚ tackling other animals. This is one of the works that show how Scythians portrayed animals the best. As Scythians believed the griffin was their alter ego‚ this knife in itself represents Scythia."
Scythian culture prevailed across the Eurasian region‚ and reached as far as the Korean Peninsula.
[Interview : Choi Hong-gi‚ Curator] "These deer patterns that show cloud-like shapes engraved on deer antlers were seen in Ordos bronzeware‚ which played a major influence in ancient Korean culture. So‚ it can be said that such Scythian patterns were passed onto ancient Korea through Siberia."
The exhibition "The Gold Treasures of Ukraine" introduces us not only to the golden relics of the Scythians‚ but also to one of the first civilizations that forged the history of the Korean Peninsula.
[STUDIO]
I had no idea that the Scythians [si-thee-uhns] were an integral part of Korean history.
I just thought Genghis Khan had that kind of pan-continental influence.
There are a lot of similarities in the crowns.
And you know how I love my crowns.
