Why Our next report is about a special student orchestra‚ unlike any other we've seen and heard of.
We have our Kim Yeon-ji joining us now in the studio.
Hello‚ Yeon-ji.
[Interview : Yeon-ji ] Hello‚ Sean.
Hello‚ Conn-young.
Today‚ I'd like to introduce to you a group of gifted young musicians that has overcome the challenge of visual impairment in pursuit of their dreams.
Why don't we get straight to it Kim Mi-soon‚ a bright 12 year-old girl‚ is a student at Incheon Hyegwang School for the Blind‚… a school for the visually impaired that offers kindergarten‚ elementary‚ middle‚ and high school classes.
Although she cannot see‚…she writes‚ reads‚ and goes about her daily business in her school dormitory on her own.
And Mi-soon is also a flutist in the Hyegwang Symphony Orchestra‚… made up of 73 elementary‚ middle‚ and high school students along with about 40 teachers.
[Reporter : Kim Mi-soon‚ Student
Incheon Hyegwang School for Blind] "I first started learning to play flute in August. The instructor would play four measures each and then I'd repeat the part. That's how I completed each music piece. I like being able to memorize and play music one by one."
Many people believe that it is not possible for the visually impaired to play instruments‚ especially the strings.
But these young students have spent countless hours learning how to play their instruments just by listening to how the teachers play‚ and feeling the keys with their fingers.
Many of them are gifted with a sense of perfect pitch and beat‚ and their musical talents have amazed the instructors.
[Reporter : Lim Jong-gu‚ Viola instructor
Incheon City Philharmonic
] "The students have learned to play the instruments very quickly. Our big concert in September will certainly not be disappointing."
These musicians took the first two weeks of their summer break to immerse themselves in intensive practice‚ and on Friday they had a music showcase for their parents and teachers.
The solemn-faced young musicians played pieces from Tchaikovsky‚ Beethoven‚ and Handel… without any music in front of them.
The sound of the beautiful harmony they created together definitely moved the hearts of many in the audience.
[Reporter : Ahn Jae-hee‚ Parent of student
] "I am so touched. Seeing my daughter perform in the orchestra brought tears to my eyes."
[Interview : Kim Yeon-ji‚ Reporter
yjkim@arirang.co.kr] "The orchestra aims to show the world that the visually impaired can perform as well as anyone else‚ and that having a disability is only a small inconvenience. The orchestra will perform at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games for the Disabled."
Through the performance‚ the students demonstrated their unlimited potential and relayed a message of hope.
[Reporter : Lim Hee-won‚ Student
Incheon Hyegwang School for Blind
] "Playing in the orchestra gives me confidence that we can do it. I think we sounded great‚ just like any other orchestra."
[Reporter : Park Ji-eun‚ Student
Incheon Hyegwang School for Blind
] "Through music‚ I'd like to tell other visually impaired people that we can perform in an orchestra and that we can do it very well."
And that they can do anything was exactly what the teachers wanted to convey to these young students.
[Reporter : Jeon Ji-young‚ Teacher
Incheon Hyegwang School for Blind
] "The reasons for the students doing music may be different. But I hope that playing in the orchestra can give them a sense of accomplishment‚ helping them embrace other challenges and tasks in life."

And the heartwarming sto
