The unrest in Yemen is showing no signs of abating after more than 40 people were killed and more than 300 soldiers defected from the armed forces Wednesday as militants backed by al-Qaeda gained control over a key area near the southern port city of Zinjibar.
With clashes going on into the evening hours a sports stadium used to store the government forces' supplies was captured after a massive gunfight which left over 25 Yemeni soldiers and 17 militants dead.
This latest development comes as President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been recovering in Saudi Arabia after being injured in an attack on his palace earlier this month.
Meanwhile‚ in a separate attack four civilians died after an air force jet incorrectly bombed a bus.
