Former ruling Grand National Party lawmaker Gong Sung-jin was called in for questioning this morning over charges that he received bribes from the chairman of the troubled Samhwa Savings Bank.
According to prosecutors‚ Gong allegedly received a total of 180-million won‚ or roughly 165-thousand US dollars‚ in monthly installments through his sister between the years 2005 and 2008.
Showing up at the Supreme Prosecutor's Offce in Seoul‚ Gong denied the charges and insisted that the money he received from his sister was part of a consulting fee paid by the bank.
Meanwhile‚ former opposition Democratic Party lawmaker Suh Gap-won was also summoned this afternoon for allegedly receiving about 28-thousand dollars from the bank in 2008.
