Taking a look at Thursday's stock market action‚
Korean shares traded lower‚ mainly on news that there was no mention of a third round of quantitative easing at the Federal Open Markets Committee meeting on Wednesday.
This has increased concerns among investors that the US government could turn to austerity measures after QE2 ends this month.
The benchmark KOSPI dropped by point-4 percent to finish at 2‚56 while the tech-heavy KOSDAQ fell by less than point-2 percent to finish at 4-hundred-64.6.
On the FX counter‚ the Korean currency weakened by 3 won to close at 1‚77 against the US dollar.
