There is no resting in peace at this cemetery in Paju‚ South Korea.
North Korean and Chinese soldiers who were killed during the Korean War lie underneath.
They haven't been able to return to their homeland since they were killed.

Paju ed:mark] "Instead of tombstones‚ we see white wooden stakes that say 'Mumyeong-in ' which means 'Anonymous'. And unlike the Korean tradition of lining graves toward the south‚ these point towards the north‚ to their home. Although 61 years have past since the Korean War broke out‚ the communist warriors buried here are still waiting to return home."
The cemetery which was built in 1996 is located just south of the demilitarized zone‚ separating the two Koreas.
It holds over 960 bodies but as the South began excavating the war's major battle sites over ten years ago the number is expected to grow.
The dead includes not only war veterans‚ but also communist infiltrators..
[Interview : Hwang Jin-jae‚ Paju resident] "Both North Korea and China refuse to re-claim the remains. So the government created this cemetery to bury the enemy soldiers who we don't know their names or where they are from."
Korean tradition says a ghost of the dead wanders until he is buried in his homeland.
But with the ongoing tension on the Korean Peninsula these men are unlikely to return home anytime soon.

] "Whether they are enemies or not‚ it is a good deed to take care of the dead‚ and it is the right thing to do. Of course‚ it would be better if they could all return to their homelands soon."
