Sunchon National University President and former agricultural minister Lim Sang-gyu who was under investigation for his suspected role in a corruption scandal was found dead in an apparent suicide this morning.
Police say his body was discovered in a parked car on a mountain in South Jeolla Province where they found burned charcoal briquettes and a suicide note.
Prosecutors were investigating whether Lim had received money from a detained broker for introducing local officials for a construction site canteen deal.
Lim wrote in his note that there was no transaction of money between the broker and himself while adding that he had fallen victim to an evil trap.
