The US military will dispatch 80 counterintelligence agents to Afghanistan in an effort to stem the threat of the Taliban infiltrating the Afghan National Security Forces.
Citing a US official‚ the New York Times reported on Friday that some of the agents have already arrived in Afghanistan‚ and the rest are expected to arrive soon.
The intelligence specialists will review the profiles of soldiers and tighten up the identification procedures of individuals who may be vulnerable to extremists' appeals.
Currently‚ there are some 130-thousand American and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
However‚ the majority of international troops will be pulled out starting in July‚ and be replaced by the Afghan Army and local police by 2014.
