Japan noticed Korea on Friday that its government has completed all necessary procedures to transfer Korean historical documents back to Seoul.
The bilateral accord on the transfer was singed in November last year during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum where Korean President Lee Myung-bak and his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kan agreed upon the decision.
This pact will bring 1‚2-hundred-and-5 volumes of ancient Korean texts seized by Japan during its 1910-to-1945 colonial rule of the Korean peninsula back to Seoul in six months.
In a statement made August last year‚ Kan offered a formal apology for his country's colonization of the peninsula and pledged to transfer these cultural assets as an overture to Seoul in the year that marked the centennial of Japan's annexation of Korea.
Japan's House of Councilors ratified the agreement by 145 to 86 votes late last month with Korea's National Assembly already having completed its process in November.
The artifacts are said to include records of Royal Protocols known as the "Uigwe" of the Joseon Dynasty‚ which illustrate major national events that had taken place from 1392 to 1910.
