The Supreme Prosecutors' Office called in the former head of Korea's top financial regulator. the Financial Supervisory Service for questioning on Thursday.
The 63-year-old former governor of the FSS‚ Kim Jong-chang is suspected of trying to hold up the investigation into the troubled Busan Savings Bank at the request of an ex-state auditor who was arrested last week for taking bribes.
Prosecutors say Kim was summoned as a testifier‚ but he could become a suspect depending on his answers regarding his involvement in the scandal.
Before he took office at the FSS in 2008 he had worked as a board member of a real estate trust company that invested just over 8-million US dollars in shares of Busan Savings Bank.
