On May 3rd‚ a seminar was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the Netherlands.
Many people attended the seminar to learn more about their diplomatic history.

Yonsei University] "I came here today because I heard that the Dutch ambassador was coming to give a talk on the history of diplomatic ties between Korea and the Netherlands."
The two countries have been close friends since 1961.

We had a resident ambassador of Korea in the Netherlands since 1974 and we've had a resident ambassador of the Netherlands here in Korea since 1978. I'm actually number 13."
The Dutchman Hendrick Hamel wrote the first book that made Korea known to the West.
During the Korean War‚ the Netherlands sent troops to Korea. Ceremonies to commemorate these veterans are still being held today.
The two countries are active in economic exchanges as well.
They also try to understand each other's cultures through education
while expanding their partnership in the field of renewable energy.

Korea and the Netherlands have built up a close relationship over the past 50 years. We hope they continue expanding their friendship through more and diverse exchanges.
In addition to the Netherlands‚ the embassies of Australia and Portugal are also holding various events to commemorate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Korea.

HUNGARY
For the first time since it joined the European Union‚ Hungary has taken on the rotating EU presidency for 2011.
To commemorate the event the 'Hungary European Union Presidency Commemorative Concert" will be held at the Youngsan Art Hall.
That's here in Seoul in Yeongdeungpo-gu. It will be at 7:30PM.
The Hungarian Embassy is encouraging everyone to attend.
