A Japanese document from the 1950s has come to light that shows that‚ during Japan's colonial rule of Korea‚ Koreans were forced into labor in Korea as well as outside of the country.
This is according to the Commission on Verification and Support for the Victims of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Colonialism in Korea on Monday.
Currently‚ the Korean government only compensates victims who were forced to work or fight outside Korea.
But since this document proves that Japan forced Koreans into labor both inside and outside of Korea the committee is calling for those people who were forced into work in Korea to be compensated as well.
During the colonial era‚ Koreans were forced to work in coal mines and factories abroad but the document shows they were also sent to areas bordering North Korea.
