요약정보
Twenty-seven of the 31 North Koreans who have been staying in South Korea since their boat crossed the inter-Korean sea border on February 5th will not be going home just yet.
According to South Korea's Unification Ministry‚ the communist regime refused taking back 27 of its people on Friday demanding that the South return all 31‚ including the four North Koreans who expressed their wish to stay in the South.
Seoul said that since four of them freely chose to stay in the South‚ as they have every right to do‚ they will not be forced back to the communist state.
In response‚ Pyeongyang warned of enormous consequences if Seoul refuses to accept this demand just days before the two Koreas are set to resume inter-Korean talks on Monday.
Meanwhile‚ a South Korean lawmaker said in a briefing that China has officially invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's youngest son‚ Kim Jong-un‚ to visit Beijing but that the timetable was still unknown at this point.
[Interview : Yang Moo-jin‚ Professor
Gyeongnam University] "The visit is expected to take place in mid-May following national holidays in North Korea on April 15th and the 25th."
According to the lawmaker‚ the invitation was most likely made when China's Minister of Public Security visited Pyeongyang last month.
Analysts here in Seoul say the invitation is seen as North Korea trying to get China's full blessing of Kim Jong-un becoming the country's next leader.
Meanwhile‚ the Voice of America reported on Saturday that five American aid agencies have requested that the United States government resume aid to North Korea after detailing the widespread food shortages there.
The five aid groups say many North Koreans are foraging for wild grasses and herbs because of the severe lack of food while urging for quick assistance to feed the most vulnerable people in the isolated country.
The US State Department says Washington is monitoring the situation‚ but is not preparing to resume aid any time soon.
