The distributed denial-of-service‚ or DDoS‚ cyber attacks on Korean government and banking websites on Friday have been traced to over 30 overseas servers in 18 countries.
Korean police said they have isolated 30 overseas servers that were ordering over 34-thousand so-called "zombie computers" to bombard the Korean websites.
They say that the servers were traced to 18 countries including the United States‚ Russia‚ Italy‚ and Israel.
A DDoS attack uses viruses planted in zombie computers which enable simultaneous access to selected sites and swamps them with traffic.
Korea issued a cyber security alert as 29 websites came under DDoS attacks on Friday.
