The last remaining hopes faded for the heartbroken father of the two missing Korean siblings in Christchurch‚ New Zealand.
Local authorities told reporters at a media briefing on Saturday that police have now identified the bodies of 38 more victims who died in last week's devastating earthquake.
This tragic news struck the 57-year-old father who has been waiting to hear any news regarding his two missing children in the quake-ravaged city since he arrived from Seoul last Thursday.
New Zealand Police notified him late Friday night that they have identified the body of his 24-year-old son‚ Yoo Gil-hwan‚ discovered from the rubble of the Canterbury TV building.
[Interview : Yoo Sang-cheol‚ Father of quake victims] "This is not something that I can easily put behind me‚ obviously‚ but there are people close to me who try to give me strength to overcome this pain‚ so I will try to follow and endure. I wish Naon will soon come to me. I hope that she is alive and will come and knock on my door‚ but am not really sure if this is realistic. Only time will tell‚ but hopefully we can go back home together. We will not live here‚ but we will go home together."
Yoo' s two children studied English at the King's Education language school on the third floor of the toppled six-story building.
The whereabouts of his 21-year-old daughter is still unknown‚ but her body is also believed to be under the rubble.
Korea’s foreign ministry said… the father and ministry officials are now taking procedures to address the death of his son.
A funeral is scheduled to take place on Sunday at 10 a.m.… at a Korean Catholic church in Christchurch.
Meanwhile‚ local police have been trying to identify more bodies with collected DNA samples from the families.
