South Korea's government and corporate websites came under a Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS attack Friday morning.
According to Ahn Lab‚ Korea's leading computer and network security firm‚ websites of 40 government and corporate institutions‚ including the Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae as well as the Naver and Daum search engines came under attack at around 10 a.m. local time.
Ahn Lab said that it received a tip on Thursday about the attacks‚ adding that it expects another round to strike at around at 6:30 p.m. Friday‚ local time.
In July 2009‚ 17 websites came under organized DDoS attacks‚ which work by crippling a target's website with a sudden increase in users‚ overloading the site's maximum accommodation capacity.
