Winter is brief in Gangwon-do‚ or Gangwon Province.
That is why it's my duty to capture and immortalize snow-covered scenery through paintings.
Using all the colors in my arsenal‚ I paint the canvas and create a miniature rendition of Gangwon in winter.

Today‚ I continue to illustrate my way through life here.
The sea surrounds this beautiful part of Korea.
It's my home away from home‚ Sokcho.
For 20 years‚ I have been teaching here.
It feels like yesterday that I got here.
My job is to teach young minds how to let their vision and imagination take flight using the colors and canvas.
30 years ago‚ I was just like them.
Full of curiosity about what painters can do.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk‚ Art Teacher/Painter] "I've been painting since I was a sophomore in high school. I had to leave home to study. And I started painting then. In 1990 I started teaching. And then I became a professional painter."
When the bell rings‚ it's time to tend to my other passion.
The sea brims with life and color.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "I live near the sea‚ so I go out to the port to sketch quite often."
I reach Jangsa Port‚ which isn't too far from where I usually tread‚ Sokcho.
The fishy scent of the sea fills the air.
It feels like home to me.
I love Sokcho because it's so close to the deep blue sea.
I've painted a hundred pictures using this scenery as the model.
But I can't seem to paint enough.
Everything that passes my eyes inspires me to splatter new colors on the canvas.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "Sokcho boasts amazing natural sights - Seorak Mountain‚ Yeongrang Lake and Cheongcho Lake and the wide open sea. That's why this is an ideal place to capture the beauty of Gangwon."
The sight of the open sea calms and excites me at the same time.
Today is no different.
Jangsa Port provides me with new inspirations.
All that's going on around the bustling port helps complete the picture in my mind.
There are many exciting places in Gangwon Province.
Abai Village is the place to experience a unique culture‚ traditions‚ sights and sounds.
For the residents here‚ this little raft is an important means of transportation.
It saves them a lot of time and energy.
I chanced upon this place a long time ago.
I instantly fell in love with the back country scenery.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "I've lived here for 20 years. Not much has changed. This town has become a proud symbol of Sokcho."
To get to the village‚ I hop aboard the Gaetbae.
Everyone onboard must sweat it out to go places.
I help pull the metallic rope.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "Must be hard to travel back and forth."
This distinctly Sokcho item has a long history.
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "Thank you. How long has this raft been around[Interview : Kim Bong-cheon‚ Gaetbae Owner] "About 60 years. It's been around since right after the Korean War."
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "60 years!"
[Interview : Kim Bong-cheon‚ Gaetbae Owner] "Displaced people gathered here and later decided to build a raft to cross the lake."
[Interview : Park Dong-guk] "As their means of transportation[Interview : Kim Bong-cheon‚ Gaetbae Owner] "Yes. It's the best way to travel‚ since you'd have to cover 5.5km to go around it."
No matter how seldom I visit‚
nothing changes around here.
That's one of the unique charms of this place.
I'm a fan of this timeless wonder.
A day of heavy snow. With everything covered in pure white‚ this was the perfect time to visit the top of Jinburyeong. Today‚ I'm not alone.
A trip to paint more scenes with my closest colleagues.
I've been wanting to share the experience with them for a long time.
