With the start of the new school year on Wednesday‚ a free school lunch program began at about half of Korea's elementary‚ middle and high schools.
That's more than double the number of schools that offered free meals last year.
According to the education ministry‚ more than 57-hundred schools in the country‚ which includes about 80 percent of elementary schools‚ 25 percent of middle schools and 9 percent of high schools‚ are offering free meal programs this semester.
But for now‚ the scope of free meal coverage differs in cities and municipalities within each province.
