The government is set to provide water supply services to areas affected by foot-and-mouth disease and avian flu as concerns of possible groundwater contamination continue.
In a briefing on Monday‚ the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Environment Ministry announced that the government promised some 309 billion won‚ roughly 274 million US dollars‚ to provide clean water to areas near animal burial sites.
Roughly 8.8 million animals have been buried since the outbreak of FMD and avian flu‚ but fears rose when the animals started decomposing.
An environment ministry official said that the water supply plan will be finished within the first half of this year and despite concerns there are no signs of groundwater pollution as of yet.
