Korea and Japan are seeking ways to jointly help the victims of Japan's colonial rule and the Sakhalin Koreans.
According to sources on Sunday‚ government officials in the two countries are looking into establishing a foundation to help the victims with donations made by the countries' governments and businesses.
The joint fund is called the 'two-plus-two' fund and includes the governments of Korea and Japan‚ Korean companies that received funds for war damages in 1965 and Japanese companies classified as war criminals.
However‚ some Japanese officials are taking a cautious stance saying the Japanese government should prioritize providing compensation to the Chinese war victims.
