Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi resigned on Sunday amid new violence in the North African country.
Ghannouchi‚ who formed an interim government after former President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali was ousted by protesters on January 14th‚ announced his resignation over state television on Saturday.
He said‚ he no longer wanted to make decisions that would end up causing more casualties and that he wanted to open the way for a new prime minister.
On Saturday at least three people died due to violent protests that took place in the capital‚ Tunis where protesters demanded the removal of some ministers of Ghannouchi's interim government.
The interim President‚ Fouad Mebazaa named the former minister Beji Caid-Essebsi as Ghannouchi's replacement.
