요약정보
French robotics firm Aldebaran announced the launching of its educational partnership program in Korea on Wednesday.
Aldebaran Robotics‚ a company based in Paris‚ is the first of its kind in Europe to specialize in the design and sales of programmable humanoid robots.
Aldebaran says through this program it hopes to help leading schools around the world… including those in Korea… advance their study in humanoid robotics by donating its star product‚ the 'Nao'‚ for research.
[Reporter : Jang Ji-yun

The robot stands 58 centimeters tall‚ weighs 5 kilograms and has two computers in its body that can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Using its ability to go online‚ Nao can read out loud daily news‚ magazines and also receive and send e-mails.
The French firm has already struck educational partnerships with renowned schools such as Harvard‚ Brown and Wales… and will now forge a new alliance with Korea's leading institutions for science and technology‚ KIST and KAIST.
[Interview : Bruno Maisonnier‚ CEO
Aldebaran Robotics] "If some university is having an educational project using robots‚ our Naos‚ if it is selected by our internal committee‚ we are going to subsidize‚ we are going to help the project‚ either by training or funding. So it's a way to really boost education of robots."

Aldebaran representatives say the reason they are aggressively setting out to support international academic institutions is to establish their platform for Nao as the global standard and speed up the adoption of humanoids for everyday use.
Although many schools and firms have developed humanoid robots none have succeeded in setting a global platform and few have surpassed the prototype stage.
However‚ Aldebaran asserts it is confident its robot Nao is sophisticated‚ affordable‚ easily programmable and durable enough for commercialization.
[Interview : Kim Kyung-hwan‚ CEO
NT Research] "For Koreans this means we will be getting a good platform‚ one that will help turn around the domestic robotics industry. In fact‚ there are many companies that wish to enter the sector‚ but are waiting for some conglomerate to become the pioneer in commercializing humanoids. Hopefully this will help get things going."
With countries around the world forecast to enter an aging society crisis in the near future Aldebaran says it is preparing for an era when the practical need for humanoid robots becomes a reality.
