An international music festival is currently underway in Korea's southern coastal city of Tongyeong .
The festival was initially put together to commemorate world-renowned composer Yun Isang at his hometown Tongyeong.
Reporter Choi Won-young joins us now in the studio to tell us more.

I've spent all last weekend in Tongyeong to find out every little detail about the Tongyeong International Music Festival while I was there.
Not only was the festival a pleasant experience the city itself was so beautiful that it made me want to go back‚ although it takes about five hours from Seoul by car.
Korea's southern port city of Tongyeong has turned into a city of music for a week with the opening of the Tongyeong International Music Festival‚ or TIMF on last Friday.
Also called Korea's Napoli Tongyeong is located at the tips of the Korean peninsula in South Gyeongsang Province.
TIMF initially started in 1999 as an one-off concert to commemorate Yun Isang ‚ a world renowned composer who was born in Tongyeong.
But after two year's of experiments in the form of festival the TIMF was officially established in 2002 as an international event.
And this year's theme is named 'Music+' which is different from the past eight themes‚ that were chosen from Yun's works.

Tongyeong International Music Festival] "You can see it as something more than just a music as the name music+ implies. Genres including dance‚ play and film are linked to music. And so the festival would be an experiment of adding variability of music to its original form."
What's more this year is that a memorial hall for Yun Isang has been opened with his belongs including his bust sculpture returned from North Korea.
He formed a relationship with Pyeongyang while he was studying in Berlin which led to deportation by the South Korean government in 1969.
North Korea holds Yun Isang Music Festival each year since 1982 and due to Yun's effort musicians from Seoul were invited to Pyeongyang for a joint concert in 1990.

An international music competition called Isang Yun Competition is held each year by South Gyeongsang Province in the city of Tongyeong where a finalist is invited to the TIMF.

And this year a general meeting of the Association of Asian Performing Arts Festival is also held in Tongyeong along with the TIMF that attracted many international festival organizers to the city.

A baroque opera opened the festival‚ which is one of the longest running operas in the world.
And in accordance with this year's theme‚ music+ a new attempt was also put on stage.
Shin Na-ra a composer of a music theater "Echo" says that he tried to engage Korean traditional tune into Western music.
