A Seoul court ruled in favor of broadcaster MBC's investigative program "PD Notebook" after four producers and one scriptwriter were indicted on charges of defaming the government's decision to resume US beef imports in 2008.
Prosecutors initially sought two- to three-year prison terms arguing that the program intentionally distorted facts‚ mistranslated interviews and exaggerated the threat of mad cow disease.
Judge Mun Sung-gwan of the Seoul Central District Court said although there were some exaggerations and errors it was difficult to tell if the producers purposely altered facts.
The Seoul District Prosecutors' Office said they will appeal the case.
