Suncheon Bay‚ located in South Jeolla Province‚ is one of the world's top five coastal wetlands protected by the Ramsar Convention in which more than three million people visit each year.
Also‚ hundreds of hooded cranes visit annually and stay for the winter.
The endless field of reeds and the sea that surrounds the bay attracts a large number of tourists‚ even on weekdays.

Meanwhile‚ the city has started preparations for the International Garden Exposition that is slated to be held in 2013 at Suncheon Bay.
A master plan for the venue that will be making full use of its locational characteristics has been set up recently.
And the city now plans to purchase the site for the exposition‚ begin design development and establish an ordinance for the project.
[Interview : No Gwan-gyu‚ Mayor of Suncheon] "The garden exposition that is to be held at Suncheon Bay will show people around the world the joy that the harmony between a garden made by nature and a garden made by human beings brings to us."
According to the Korea Rural Economic Institute‚ the hosting of the exposition is expected to create some 10-thousand jobs and generate over 1.1 billion US dollars while luring more than four-and-a-half million tourists to the site.
