Two new species of mushrooms‚ that only grow on Jeju‚ have been discovered.
Because the head and stem of one of the newly discovered mushrooms is white‚ it's been tentatively named the "white hair funnel mushroom."
The second mushroom will be named "orange sea anemone mushroom" because of its reddish color and round shape.
The former was found in a coniferous tree forest located in the highlands of Halla Mountain.
The latter was discovered in Seonheul-li in a Gotjawal‚ which is a special kind of forest.

Warm-temperate Forest Research Center ] "The Gotjawal forest exists only in Jeju. It allows for the growth of unique‚ wild mushrooms because it maintains both a constant level of humidity and warm temperatures."
The Warm-temperate Forest Research Center at the Korea Forest Research Institute discovered the mushrooms after five years of intensive investigation.
The research team also found and named 13 species of mushrooms which‚ until now‚ had not been discovered in Korea.
The aesthetically pleasing "bondarzewia montana mushroom" which was spotted at 1‚500 meters above sea level on Mount Halla‚ weighs over 2 kilograms and is edible.

Warm-temperate Forest Research Center] "We will try to understand the mushrooms' characteristics and come up with ways to take advantage of them."
The team of researchers has discovered around 120 mushroom species on the island making the total number of wild mushrooms on Jeju‚ 400.
The institute will do further research to determine what can be done with the new mushrooms.
