Human rights conditions in North Korea are "abysmal" according to a report presented to the United Nations General Assembly Humanitarian Committee.
In his annual report on the regime given on Thursday UN Special Rapporteur for North Korea Vitit Muntarbhorn claimed that North Koreans were being abused in many ways including persecution collective punishment torture and executions.
The envoy also said food shortages in the communist state have intensified and that a third of the 24 million population were deprived access to adequate food supplies.
North Korea's deputy UN ambassador Pak Tok-hun dismissed the report saying that his country was being singled out for political reasons.
