요약정보
The US government is likely to propose a comprehensive package of incentives aimed at persuading North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions if the reclusive state agrees to a disarmament deal.
The plan is expected to be presented during possible bilateral talks between the two states talks Washington seemingly intends to participate in in order to get Pyeongyang to rejoin the six-party talks.
At a press briefing US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that one of the ways to get the North to engage in the multilateral process is by explaining to Pyeongyang directly and clearly what the possible consequences and rewards might be in reponse to the reclusive state's next path of action.
Clinton added that Washington's agenda is to remain "totally unified" with the other parties involved in the 6-party process stressing that the US will not act independently but will continue to work closely with Japan‚ Korea‚ Russia and China.
The Secretary of State however failed to confirm whether the US would accept a North Korean invitation for US special envoy Stephen Bosworth to travel to Pyeongyang.
Observers say that bilateral communication could work as a way for Washington to clarify its stance and its willingness to offer better bilateral relations and improved prosperity in return for North Korea's return to the multilateral talks and commitment to denuclearization.
