Children practice Pansori‚ a traditional Korean opera according to the Korean classical musician Gwon Mi-suk's drumming.
The song is Mandeokga about Kim Man-deok from Jeju‚ who donated her wealth to save people dying of starvation during the Joseon Dynasty.
Poet Yang Yeong-gil wrote the lyrics in Jeju dialect‚ and Ms. Gwon put it to melody.
Ms. Gwon had an idea to write the song in 2005‚ and finally completed it in August‚ 2009.

I think wind musicians should make music and poets should write poems about them. Whichever field of culture we're in‚ we should focus on these prominent figures so we can remember what they stood for."
The song describes Kim's life as a talented merchant and her achievements to save the Jeju people from famine.
Mandeokga Lyrics:
"In the spring of 1794‚ when there was a famine‚
Kim Man-deok saved the starving people.
Her love for her homeland‚ Tamna‚
is based on the five moral virtues."

The song has a lot of high-pitched tones to express Kim's achievements and spirit‚ and it was made for anyone who can easily sing.
As the special event to donate rice in commemoration of Kim will be held in Seoul in October‚ the birth of the song has a more special meaning.
The debut of the song will be at the Jeju Culture and Art Center on September 18th.
