American soft drink makers Coca-Cola and Pepsi have both been put on a list of the top 12 factories responsible for causing water pollution in Beijing.
The city's govenrment has also published a list of the top 15 energy consumers in the Chinese capital which included the Beijing Benz DaimlerChrysler plant.
The 27 companies on the environmental watch lists are subject to increased supervision and are being asked to detail their plans to reduce energy consumption and pollution.
Now many of the companies labeled polluters or energy guzzlers are questioning the credibility of the blacklist announced this week claiming that they have already made efforts to reduce their impact on the Chinese environment.
