요약정보
President Lee Myung-bak is on his second day in London meeting with leaders there for the Group of 20 financial summit scheduled for Thursday.
For the latest on the President's agenda and the G20 summit we have our Ahn Chak Hee on the phone.
Hello Chak-hee. I know it's still Wednesday there in London.
[Reporter : Ahn Chak-hee
chakhee@arirang.co.kr] Hello Ki-ho and Sun-hee.
We are eight hours behind Seoul so here it's a little past 11 on Wednesday night.
About an hour ago President Lee Myung-bak and world leaders attending the G20 financial summit were at British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's residence for dinner which was preceeded by a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Queen.
Now we were told that this dinner was a working dinner meaning the discussions have begun on how these leaders are going to map a way out of the global economic recession.
It's only been four months since the last time the leaders met in Washington and quite a lot has happened since in terms of how the financial crisis has exposed serious weaknesses in the global economy.
So the fact that they have gathered once again tells us just how dire the situation is and that the leaders are committed to reengineering the global economy.
We hear about how countries are keen to have their say in the G20 summit. In that sense what is President Lee bringing to the G20 table[Reporter : Ahn Chak-hee] This crisis of course is going to take quite a package of measures to fix but President Lee seems to have his message set out.
First of all he's going to be calling on his counterparts to coordinate their macroeconomic policies and spending plans in order to maximize the impact of their stimulus measures.
And we're told another point the President will be stressing is that countries should not revert to trade and financial protectionism.
That's his "standstill" proposal.
In fact he's expected to take this a step further and ask the World Trade Organization to keep a check on countries that do introduce new trade barriers to protect their own markets.
He's also set to talk about the need to clean up bad assets held by financial institutions.
So that's all on Thursday. Chak-hee before we let you go so you can get some sleep what's this about President Lee's discussions with the Japanese Prime Minister on North Korea[Reporter : Ahn Chak-hee] Well‚ it's basically the same message being repeated as a warning to North Korea that the international community isn't just going to sit around and watch how far its missile can go.
Prime Minister Taro Aso said the launch if it happens would be a clear violation of United Nations resolution 17-18 and that Japan along with the US and the UK would refer the matter to the UN Security Council to discuss countermeasures.
President Lee said Seoul‚ Washington and Tokyo need to work on this together and that the international community needs to show Pyeongyang that it can't have things its way.
And you can be sure that when President Lee meets with US President Barack Obama for their first face-to-face talks on Thursday morning that North Korea's rocket and nuclear issues will figure prominently.
Back to you.
All right‚ Chak-hee. It looks like you'll have quite a busy day tomorrow so we'll let you go now.
Thanks for that.
That was our Ahn Chak-hee joining us live from London.
