Japan's Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada says he plans to issue a military operation directive which would give Japan's Self-Defense Forces the authority to shoot down a North Korean missile.
If the directive is given this would be the first time in Japanese history that Tokyo has given out the order to "shoot and destroy" a ballistic missile.
According to Japan's Asahi Shimbun‚ Minister Hamada said he may make the order within this month.
The report indicates that the decision to intercept North Korea's missile‚ which Pyeongyang claims is a satellite launch vehicle‚ is to prevent rocket debris from landing on Japanese territory.
