A Seoul district court has upheld a decision to arrest an influential cyber pundit accused by the government of spreading false rumors that allegedly caused havoc in the foreign exchange market.
Identified only by his family name Park the economic blogger rose to fame using the Internet alias "Minerva" writing numerous online postings that forecast the demise of Lehman Brothers and the sharp depreciation of the Korean won against the US dollar.
Judges said there is sufficient evidence to suggest unlawful activities. Earlier in the day Park told judges that he was unaware of the influence he had on the markets.
He has admitted to being the author of many of the online postings that are at the center of focus. Park was arrested on January 7th.
