With the government's December report on the first minus job growth in five years released Wednesday President Lee Myung-bak and his officials discussed ways to protect the employment market by job-sharing measures. This is a method for businesses to cut wages by reducing laborers' work hours while spending the amount saved toward maintaining the current number of employees. President Lee instructed his officials to devise measures to induce corporate managements and labor unions to join the campaign.
The meeting also touched on reducing the average salary for entry level positions at state-run corporations so that more college graduates can join the work force.
For already fallen victims of the sluggish job market the president told his officials to provide more affordable rental housing.
