As is the custom on Fridays our Yoo Jihae joins me in the studio to tell us about what's happening on the cultural front in the country.
Hi‚ Jihae.
I hear you were at an international fashion event That's right‚ Sunhee.
While most of us are now shopping for winter in the fashion industry spring is already in the air.
Pret-a-Porter one of the two major fashion festivals kicked off this week in Korea's second largest city‚ Busan with fashion designers flaunting their spring and summer collections for next year.
It does seem insanely early but fashionistas who were curious to find out what's in for next year have flocked to BEXCO to attend the three-day event.
11 teams of young emerging local designers in their 20s and 30s to foreign designers from China‚ Hong Kong and Japan here you see Eric Tibusch from France gathered to promote international fashion exchanges.
I see Jihae.
Do tell us‚ were there any fashion designers that we should keep our eye on Well the works of Han Ahnsoon a third generation Korean-Japanese designer from Osaka was clearly in the spotlight as she had the honor of opening the show.
Han is not only noted for her unique blend of Korean and Japanese culture in her designs but also her trademark use of flowing materials and floor-lengthed dresses decorated with various cartoon characters and primary colors creating a blissful and playful image.
Backstage before the actual runway show I asked Han of her concept behind her Spring and Summer collection and this is what she had to say.
[Interview : ] "Most of the time‚ we tend to yearn for the way princesses wear their dresses with lots of sparkles and volume to express the epitome of feminism. But the concept of my designs‚ stem from a princess who wants to mimic normal girls of high fashion."
Impressive.
Well obviously many trends tend to come out of Fashion Week.
What are the upcoming trends in store for us next year From what I saw on the runway lots of creases‚ ruffles and over-exaggerated volume and details are likely to be in with the use of sparkling chandelier-like fabric and metal accessory designs which will add more splendor and spectacle.
Colorwise clear color palettes of red‚ blue‚ green‚ yellow and purple that help accentuate the silhouette and ooze energetic femininity will be dominant features on the runway in 2009.
